About Rachel

Life Summary:

  • FAILING 4th Grade: I was in the bottom 10% of the 4th grade for reading. The school district told my mom I was doomed. They told my mother “your daughter just isn’t as fast as the other kids” and that I “will likely graduate high school with a modified diploma.” It turns out that I had dyslexia, a processing disorder that makes reading exceptionally difficult, despite the fact I had I high IQ. I also had major attention issues, despite having a healthy diet and exercising a lot (and no, my parents did not pathologize my behavior, it was intense)

  • Official Diagnosis: Dyslexia & Inattentive ADHD

  • Solutions

    • Dyslexia: The Prentice School (5th-8th grade)for my reading disability

    • ADHD: stimulant medication—it felt like someone gave me glasses and I could see clearly for the first time. This medication was a last resort (after incorporating rigorous exercise and a strict diet)
